Global’s 26cm diamond sharpening steel is the more assertive maintenance tool in the brand’s own sharpening system. The rod is coated with microcrystalline diamond, so unlike a conventional honing steel it actually abrades steel and can bring bite back to a plain edge.
Use it for controlled maintenance rather than to repair a badly damaged or heavily blunted knife. It is made in Japan and is intended for plain-edge sharpening and refreshing.
Choose the G-74 ceramic rod for gentler, more frequent maintenance; choose a stone or service for chips and major reprofiling.

Why we chose it
We chose G-38 because it gives GLOBAL owners a brand-matched step up from ceramic honing. The distinction is important: diamond removes material, so it suits an edge that needs refreshing rather than daily touch-ups.
Who it's best for
Buy it if your GLOBAL or compatible plain-edge knives need more than light honing and you are confident using a rod at the correct angle.
Why Lucy recommends it
26 cm; microcrystalline diamond surface; made in Japan; intended for plain-edge sharpening/refreshing.
Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning, storage and compatibility guidance. For sharpening products, match the tool to the knife’s edge angle, steel hardness and blade type before use.
